Known — A Poem

It doesn’t quite feel done, the short poem I wrote based on the last two verses of Psalm 139. The last line never came together all the way for me, but I’m sharing it with you as it is. There are a few lines I really like and maybe something in it will resonate with a place in your heart that needs to be awakened.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23,24

Like a lover through reading time and time again
Knows each layered meaning of the poem,
so you, my heart’s first and truest lover, know me intimately
each line, each grace, and shadow in my soul.
Remove, remove the false, the bent, the proud,
all that defaces and mars this heart — your joy and pride.
Lead me into your home — my freedom,
me in step with you, fully alive.

    1. Thank you, Grandma! I changed the last lines not long before I posted it, and they weren’t there long enough to know if I liked them yet. 🙂
